A firm’s published case results, its named recognitions and the terms of its fee contract can all be checked. The Law Offices of J. Chrisp, which serves Napa Valley, shows $10,000,000 in a motorcycle-versus-car crash on its case results page. Every case is different, and prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
The Law Offices of J. Chrisp represents people injured in motorcycle crashes. The consultation is free, the firm works on a contingency fee, and there is no fee unless we win. Calls are answered 24/7 at 877-J-CHRISP (877-524-7477). Below are the firm’s other motorcycle results, what a contingency fee contract must contain, two traffic rules for drivers, and the Napa agencies and court.

U.S. News – Best Lawyers named the firm to Best Law Firms 2026 (Tier 1, Santa Rosa, Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs). Founding attorney Jesse Chrisp has appeared in The Best Lawyers in America for Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs since 2024. He was selected to Super Lawyers for 2023 through 2026. Between 2013 and 2021, he was named to Northern California Rising Stars, an honor the firm’s website says goes to only 2.5% of attorneys in the state.
A lawyer who agrees to work on a contingency fee must put the contract in writing (Business and Professions Code section 6147). When the contract is made, the lawyer must give the client a copy signed by both the lawyer and the client (or the client’s guardian or representative).
The written contract must state the contingency fee rate the client and lawyer agreed on. It must also explain how costs and disbursements for pursuing or settling the claim will affect the fee and the client’s recovery. Section 6147 requires other terms as well.
Under Vehicle Code section 22107, no one may turn from a direct course or move right or left on a roadway until the move can be made with reasonable safety. If any other vehicle may be affected, the driver must first give an appropriate signal.
Vehicle Code section 21703 bars a driver from following another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent. The driver must have due regard for that vehicle’s speed, the traffic and the condition of the roadway.
Breaking a traffic rule can matter in an injury claim. Under Evidence Code section 669, a person’s failure to use due care is presumed if all of the following are true:
The presumption can be rebutted. One way is proof that the person who broke the rule did what a person of ordinary prudence would reasonably be expected to do in similar circumstances while trying to comply with the law.
The California Highway Patrol’s Napa Area office, at 975 Golden Gate Drive, Napa, CA 94558, can be reached at (707) 699-6300. According to the CHP, the office patrols state routes 12, 29, 116, 121 and 128. The CHP also lists hundreds of miles of unincorporated roads in Napa and Sonoma counties as part of the office’s patrol area.
Write down the report number the officer gives you and the name of the officer’s agency.
The City of Napa takes claims on its Claim Form. The completed form goes to the City Clerk’s Department at 955 School Street, Napa, CA 94559, by mail or by hand. The city says the City Clerk will not accept a claim without proper signature.
For a cause of action that requires a claim, no suit for money or damages may be brought against the entity until the claim has been presented and then acted on or deemed rejected. Government Code sections 946.4 and 946.6 set out exceptions (Government Code section 945.4). A claim for personal injury or for damage to personal property, such as a motorcycle, must be presented no later than six months after the cause of action accrues (section 911.2).
When that deadline passes, the claimant can apply in writing for leave to present a late claim. The application is due within a reasonable time, no later than one year after accrual. It must state the reason for the delay and attach the proposed claim (section 911.4).
If the entity gives written notice rejecting the claim, the lawsuit is due within six months after the notice is personally delivered or mailed. Without such a notice, the deadline is two years from accrual (section 945.6). Both periods are subject to the exceptions in sections 946.4 and 946.6.
Except as otherwise provided by law, and subject to the court’s power to transfer cases, a personal injury lawsuit can be tried in the superior court of the county where the injury occurred. A county where any defendant resides when the case is filed is also a proper venue (Code of Civil Procedure section 395).
The Superior Court of California, County of Napa, lists the Historic Courthouse at 825 Brown St., Napa, CA 94559, as the location of its civil division.
The firm does not have an office in Napa Valley. Its offices are:
Under Business and Professions Code section 6147, failing to comply with any of its requirements makes the agreement voidable at the option of the plaintiff. If the plaintiff voids it, the lawyer is then entitled to collect a reasonable fee.
No. The City of Napa says it and the County of Napa are separate agencies. Its claims page says claims involving county roads or facilities, the sheriff, private roads or property, or Caltrans roads and state highways are for the appropriate agency, not the City of Napa.
The general limit for a lawsuit over an injury caused by someone else’s wrongful act or neglect is two years (Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1). The two years are counted from when the cause of action accrues (section 312). A lawsuit against a public entity follows the government claim deadlines instead.
